Chapter 15 – I Miss Humans…
“I miss humans…”
I thought as I ate my lunch of grilled meat (bear) and broad beans.
I miss humans…or rather, beings I can communicate with.
Eating inside the house is empty and lonely.
Since then, seeing all the fairy princess friends gathered together and having fun makes me feel that way even more.
I want to join in too, but I can’t speak the same language.
Maybe I should go to town again?
I can’t go inside because of that scary gatekeeper, but I could talk to the people around there.
I quickly tidy up and get ready to leave.
That said, I’m wearing a hat (with ears) and a belt (with a tail).
I take another look in the mirror.
Is it still okay because I’m twelve?
Not okay?
Can I go a little further?
When I left the house, the fairy princess was flying on the log I cut yesterday.
Of course, she was with me.
“I’ll be back soon!”
I waved my hand, and the fairy princess noticed and smiled and waved back.
So cute!
“Okay, let’s go!”
It started out lightly, but gradually accelerated!
The trees in the forest slid sideways with great speed.
I probably wasn’t good at running in my previous life, but now I quite like it.
Because my mom trained me, I can run quite fast.
Of course, I can’t beat mom and my brothers, but if I accelerate, I can stay in the air for a while with just one kick on the ground.
This feeling of exhilaration is irresistible!
“Yay!”
On the way, I kicked the tree trunks against the wall as I went.
I got carried away and jumped up and up, startling a monkey lounging on a branch.
I calmed down a bit.
Sorry for scaring you.
When I returned to the ground, there was a weak bear.
It noticed me and stood up, yelling something like “Gwaaaah!”
But I ignored it for now and hurried on.
I slipped past it.
Unlike the bears in my past life, the weak bear is slow.
He was saying something behind me, but I soon lost hearing.
As I ran through the gaps in the trees, I could see a river.
Fish… I might want to eat it.
Well, maybe next time?
I jumped over it and kept running.
Once I left the forest, I came to a grassland.
The herbivorous magical beasts flinched and looked my way.
There were also deer, horses, boars, and something else around.
But I still had enough meat, so I ignored them and moved on.
Hmm?
There’s a group of sabre-toothed tigers.
About forty of them.
They’re a bit of a pain.
They’re not very tasty, so I’ll just ignore them.
They look at me warily, but I pass by them.
After a while, the scenery turns into a forest.
There’s no sign of any particularly strong magical beasts.
I don’t care, I just slip through the trees and move on.
Hmm?
I sensed the presence of “something” in the distance.
I stopped and climbed up a nearby tree.
The sounds of combat, maybe?
I heard what sounded like a man barking.
I carefully made my way across the branches, and saw three men and women fighting a weak bear.
Two men stood forward with swords, while a woman with a staff seemed to be supporting them.
Are they hunting?
Even though the Weak Bear is weak, he’s still tasty.
However, when I saw their expressions, I realized I was mistaken.
All three of them were pale.
“Why, why is the ‘Forest Devil’ here?!”
“Go away! Please!”
The man shouted.
The woman behind him was clinging to her staff, trembling violently.
Oh, the Weak Bear couldn’t avoid the attack, a blow from its front paw, and there was a claw mark on the man’s arm.
It looks painful!
But those guys are really weak.
They’re dressed like adventurers from books, but are they new to the business?
Having trouble with such a Weak Bear, must be a rookie?
I was about to help him, but before I could, the uninjured man shouted while desperately trying to hold him back.
“Leave this to me, and run away together!
Mark, I’m leaving Ana to you!
Protect her for me!”
What he was saying.
Oh, so cool!
I’m a little moved!
I turned my gaze towards the woman.
The injured man (Mark?) and the woman (Ana?) were staring at each other feverishly.
“Ana, please run away at least!”
“No way, Mark!
The “Forest Devil” won’t let anyone escape.
I, I, I’ll tell you, even though it’s a time like this!
I love you!”
“Huh?
Me too!”
The two of them embrace, and the other man notices and freezes, thinking, “Are you kidding me?!”
…These guys have a lot of free time.
I switch my foot from the branch to the trunk and jump like I’m kicking off the wall.
The man was frozen by the sight of the two loving each other, and as the man was about to swing his paw down on the head of the Weak Bear, he kicked and crushed its head.
“Thank you for saving me from a dangerous situation.
You really helped me.”
The three of them all bowed their heads.
Looking closer, all three were young.
Apparently in their late teens.
They were an older brother and an older sister.
“Don’t worry about it, it’s no big deal.”
As I replied, I started draining the blood from the Weak Bear.
I activated the white Fluffy and hooked it around Weak Bear’s leg.
Then, I hung him upside down like last time.
Once I’d lifted him up, I cut his neck clean off.
When I turned my gaze back to the three of them, their eyes were wide.
Hmm?
What happened?
The man who’d said “Leave it to me” looked like he wanted to say something, but swallowed and began to speak.
“My name is Ryan, an adventurer.
I’m also the captain of the Red Eagles.
Those two are members Mark and Ana.”
Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles looks at the two members and looks a little hurt.
Yeah, they’re pretty close.
They’re holding hands.
They smile at each other sometimes.
I hear a throat and when I look back, Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles asks me, “What’s your name?”
“My name is–”
I realize that’s the first time I’ve introduced myself.
“I’m called””
I say it a little shyly, but Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles asks me again curiously.
“What did you just say?”
“Because I said”!”
But Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles asks me, “What? What did you say?”
“I said”!” I thought it was just Ryan, but the other two were also tilting their heads.
Hmm? What do you mean?
…Ah, maybe it’s because I’m pronouncing it in Fenrir that it’s hard to hear.
I tried various ways to explain it in human words, but they still couldn’t understand, so in the end I decided on Sally as a nickname.
I don’t think it’s that difficult of a name though.
Though I was a little dissatisfied, I said “I’m going to dismantle it a bit” and then made a white Fluffy appear.
I made it into a blade and quickly dismantled it.
I discarded the internal organs this time as well.
“Um…
Sally?”
A woman, Ana from the Red Eagle Group, asked.
“Is that white magic or something?”
“Mom said it was magic.”
“Magic?!
Wait, how do you do that?!”
“How do you do that…”
I explained as I processed the situation.
At one point, when I let water out of the white Fluffy to drain the blood, he held his head and said, “I don’t understand!”
But I don’t really understand it myself, so I have no way of explaining it.
In the end, he said, “I want to meet Sally’s mom!”
That was a bit out of the question, or rather, I wanted to meet her.
When I replied like that, he seemed to misunderstand that there was something going on, and said he’d help me if anything happened.
That would be nice.
