Chapter 19 – Visiting the Town, Another Try!
Morning has come!
Today is the day I have a meeting with the rest of the Red Eagle Brigade.
“Hmm,” I said, arching my back as I got off the bed, and Cerberus-chan approached me.
From left to right, their names were “Lef-chan”, “Sen-chan”, and “Rai-chan”.
And the collective nickname is Kel-chan!
…Well, I couldn’t find anything that felt right, so I had no choice.
When I called them that, all three of them looked pleased, so I’ll go with it.
Yeah, if this girl gives birth to a child…it might be a bit of a problem, though.
I eat breakfast while stroking the three heads that are rubbing their cheeks against my legs.
What will Kel-chan eat?
Meat?
I guess that’s what I thought.
I grilled some meat for the weak bear.
I’ll have that too.
I wonder if I’d like some soup or something.
When I lived with Mama, I used to make something similar to pot-au-feu with the ingredients my elf sister brought.
The male brothers liked the meat in the soup, but the rest were unpopular.
They said it was a pain to drink.
Also, they didn’t need the vegetables or mushrooms.
The ladies liked it, though.
Mama might have only said it was delicious because I made it, but I think my sister was serious because she liked it cooked.
Ah, I want to see my sister~
There aren’t enough vegetables to make soup.
Actually, there’s nothing we can do if we only have carrots, broad beans, and green peppers.
I have high hopes for the Red Eagle Brigade today!
I calmed down Kel, who seemed to want to follow me, and said hello to the fairy princess who was flying over the flower bed, and then we set off.
We went through the forest, jumped over the river, and went through some more forests.
I passed through the grassland and forest, and just before the town, three members of the Red Eagle were standing.
They waved when they noticed me.
I waved back as I approached, checking the gatekeeper.
Today, it wasn’t the scary guy, but two young-looking people.
Thank goodness!
“Good morning!”
I greeted Ryan, the leader of the Red Eagle, and handed him the small bag.
It was the bag the leader had given me the seeds in.
“Hmm? What’s that?” he asked, as he opened the bag.
Hmm?
What’s wrong?
Ryan, the leader of the Red Eagle, looked around carefully and warned me, “Don’t talk about this.”
“I know! You warned me the other day!”
“What’s wrong?”
Mark of the Red Eagle asked.
Ana from the Red Eagles also looked puzzled.
Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles sighed and showed them the contents of the bag.
“What? New?! And there’s a lot more!”
“You’re kidding me? Really, Sally?”
“I told you I could do it, didn’t I?”
I pouted.
The thing in the bag was pepper.
Of course, it wasn’t the seeds I was given.
It was fresh, just picked yesterday.
Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles said, shaking his head.
“No, you don’t think it would actually work… And in such a short time…”
After I’d said that, Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles lowered his voice and said,
“You guys, don’t tell anyone about this. This isn’t just for Sally’s sake, if people find out, our lives will be in danger.”
Mark from the Red Eagles looked shocked.
“Huh? What do you mean!?”
“If it becomes known that Sally can make pepper ripen with magic, the nobles will definitely show up. What will happen then?”
“Well, Sally is dangerous, but…”
“Sally kicks that “forest demon” and kills him with one hit! There’s no way a noble’s private soldier can do anything about it! What will the nobles think then?”
“Huh? How?”
“They’ll take their acquaintances hostage and try to make them do what they say! The most likely target at that time will be…”
All our eyes are on Anna of the Red Eagle.
Yeah, she’s a weak woman, and she’s beautiful, so she’ll definitely be a target.
Anna of the Red Eagle is pale-faced.
Ryan, the leader of the Red Eagle, turns his gaze back to everyone.
“Got it! Don’t spread it around! Especially Sally! Just because you’re fine, don’t go on and on about it!”
“I won’t talk!”
Yeah, be careful!
After that, Ana from the Red Eagles gave me a big basket.
It was something I could carry on my back, and inside it were various seeds and seed potatoes, bags of various sizes, and for some reason ropes and strings.
She said she bought it because she thought it would be necessary for things that needed splints.
Ana’s so thoughtful!
“Next time, I’ll bring you some of the crops I’ve grown!” I said, and Ana smiled and said she was really looking forward to it because it also contained fruit seeds. Even though she’s an adventurer, she’s still a girl. She even specified, “These seeds are the ones that won’t look out of place in this season!”
She’s a reliable person.
She also gave me a bag full of coins, saying it was my change.
I said, “Sure, keep it!” but she got angry.
She said, “You might need it for something, so hold on to it!”
She was like a mother to me.
Well, you never know what’s going to happen, so I decided to accept it gratefully.
Also, when I said I’d never used money, she taught me the basics.
That was helpful.
Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles asked me if I wanted to go into town now.
She said that if I became an adventurer, it would serve as identification, so even if I didn’t live in town, it wouldn’t hurt to keep it.
She also said that I didn’t have to make an appointment every time.
That’s true.
I took a quick look at the gate.
The person in question wasn’t there.
“Let’s go!”
“Follow me then!”
I followed Captain Ryan of the Red Eagles to the gate.
Anna from the Red Eagle Group said, “The Queen’s Strawberry Baked Sweets are really delicious, let’s go eat them!”
I’m really looking forward to it!
We arrived at the gate, and just like last time, several people were lined up in front of the arch.
After waiting in line for a while, it was our turn.
Everyone from the Red Eagle Group showed the gatekeeper what looked like a certificate.
Then he started to explain about me.
As I waited nervously, the door at the halfway point of the arch opened.
Then the gatekeeper appeared!
And our eyes met.
“Ahhhh!”
“Ah! You!”
With that voice behind me, I made a mad dash for cover.
—
I ran into the house and locked the door tightly!
That was scary.
When I placed the basket that Ana from the Red Eagle Band had given me on the floor, Kel came over as if wondering what it was, so I hugged him tightly.
It was so fluffy and soothing.
Oh, Sen-chan was the only one who couldn’t hug me.
Lev-chan and Rai-chan also hugged me tightly.
But that gatekeeper was scary.
Just that murderous face made that gate impenetrable.
Really.
I sat down in a chair with a bang, and the door opened, and Fairy Princess peeked in with a worried look on her face.
So cute!
“It’s okay! It’s okay! Don’t worry!”
I waved my hand and felt a little relieved.
Then, when she noticed the basket, she flew over to it.
Ah, I came back without even saying goodbye to everyone from the Red Eagle Band.
I’ll apologize the next time I see her.
…How can I meet her?
The fairy princess is circling the basket with great interest, so I pull it closer and open the lid.
I take out the cloth, rope, and bags one by one.
The small bags contain various seeds.
There are letters written on them, but…
I can’t read them.
Oh, these bags are potatoes and sweet potatoes!
What’s packed in this bag is…probably wheat!
The elf lady brought it once, so I’d seen it before.
It’s the ultimate grain with many uses!
Personally, I’m happier than rice!
If they say it comes with soy sauce…I’ll have a hard time deciding!
Anyway, I’ll just try growing whatever I can get my hands on!
As I stand up with determination, the fairy princesses snatch the seeds away from me.
Huh!?
What!?
The fairy princess is using gestures to tell me something.
Huh?
So we decide where to plant them and what kind?
Huh?
No, I don’t really know, so it’s fine…
The fairy maids and some kind of civil servants who had arrived without me noticing gathered together and started discussing things.
…I felt left out.
As I was sulking for a bit, the fairy princess seemed to have decided on some arrangement and pulled me outside.
After that, I made various things grow until the evening.
